Rex Hayes Memorial Mixed Doubles
12 October 2026
Winners Michael Rocks and Michelle Maxwell with Kevin McFadgen
On Saturday 10 October twenty teams participated in the annual Rex Hayes Mixed Doubles tournament.
The tournament is in honour of Rex who was a past Kapiti club life member, Wellington and NZ representative player.
He always helped others and was a true role model for someone who always had the best interests of the club and the sport in mind.
There was a great sense of camaraderie and wonderful to see some new teams joining in the fun.
On Sunday 11 October, Kapiti had their first defence of the Jacques cochonnet trophy and it was against Manawatu in Palmerston North.
An intense time as the six players from each of the two clubs battled it out for their club.
It was a close run tournament, however, at the end of the three rounds, Kapiti came out the winners 5 games to 4.
The next challenge is against Horowhenua at Levin.
Kapiti Club hosted the WPA Doubles Championship on 17 and 18 October. There were 21 teams entered.
After six rounds of swiss the top team was Kevin McFadgen and Annick Le Guen with six wins. One team had five wins and six other teams had four wins each.
Kevin McFadgen and Annick Le Guen won the final, beating Lee Tafford and Te Wai Haa Rangi Biddle-Amoroa 9/8, in a very close game.
The Plate Final was won by Theresa Harawira and Seymour Harawira beating Claire Bradburn and Dan Harawira 13/1.
The bowl final was won by Rachel Clark and Peter Mathews beating Linley Wistrand and Pat Fotheringham 9/4.
