Jacques Cochonnet Challenge Trophy

The Jacques Cochonnet Trophy

The Jacques Cochonnet Trophy was presented to the Wellington Pétanque Association by Caffe L'Affare in 1999.

The trophy is played by clubs on a challenge basis loosely based on Rugby's Ranfurly Shield. The holding club plays on a monthly basis against a designated challenger, either at home or at the challenger's terrain.

Each team comprises six players who draw for partners and opponents at the start of the match. One player from each team will play three games of singles, two will play three games of doubles and the remaining three players will play three games of triples.

A match comprises nine games and the trophy is won by the team who wins at least five games. Should a challenger win the match, it becomes the holder and defends the trophy against the next challenger.

At the conclusion of the round, a draw for the next challenge round is made at a WPA meeting.

The draw for Round 16 was conducted on Thursday, 1 September 2011.
