The Chanticleer Cup has been retained by Auckland. Going into the Triples rounds, Auckland needed to win eleven of the twenty-four games to retain the Cup while Wellington needed to win fourteen games to win the match.

After three rounds of play, both teams has won nine games which meant that Wellington had to win at least five of the last six games. Unfortunately, the weather which had been been slowly deteriorating, became truly awful with driving rain. The two Senior Triples were quickly shared 1-1, which left Auckland just one win away from victory. Wellington lost three of the remaining four games and the final game was abandoned at 9-9.
